PARTNERSHIP
Dutch National Ballet is based in Amsterdam
(the Netherlands) where it develops, produces
and performs ballets at an international top
level. Gymna has sought cooperation with
this ballet company where 85 dancers from
all over the world can achieve their ambitions
with passion and expertise. The core values
of Gymna are a perfect match with this
professional, inspiring environment where
the physical impact on performance is great.
The most common complaints that dancers have are
tendonitis, bursitis, sprains, overload and chronic
tendon injury. Which complaints there are depends largely on the
ballet, combined with a dancer’s mobility, technique and power. It is a
terrific challenge to be able to get a person back on their feet as soon
as possible with the aid of the Gymna products. Being unable to dance
is hardly conceivable for our young, super-motivated individuals.
John ten Kulve,
physical therapist, Dutch National Ballet
Behind the scenes is a medical team, where a manual physical therapist and
a masseur are present every day. There is also a sports physical therapist, a
Mensendieck exercise therapist and a Pilates teacher. A good understanding
of dance technique and familiarity with the dance world and its jargon are
important for treating and actually also preventing the specific dance injuries.
The prescribed postures in classical ballet demand a lot in terms of mobility,
stability and endurance.
